Manned security is traditionally sourced to tackle loss prevention and improve employee safety; however, due to COVID-19, this is no longer its sole focus.
Security companies have been a huge part of the UK’S COVID-19 response. Firms across the country have been involved in the planning and security for hospitals across the UK, including critical care units for treating patients with coronavirus and the NHS Nightingale hospitals.
The NHS is not the only organisation that has required support. During the pandemic, the sight of a security guard outside a store or public building has become the norm as organisations strive to put the safety of shoppers first. Security services have been vital during this time to limit the number of people who can enter a building at any one time, and ensure social, distancing in public spaces.
Due to the closure of many commercial buildings, tenders have been released for security services and technology. Patrolling, CCTV monitoring, alarm response, key-holding, incident assistance and high-risk product protection to prevent theft are all vital for businesses to keep safe in this ‘new normal’ world.
Lockdown restrictions tighten
As the UK government has announced “tighter” enforcement of the new rules, it is clear that increased requirement for security services will not end any time soon.
Under the new measures announced on 22 September, pubs, bars, and restaurants in England and Wales now have to close by 10pm each night and must operate as table service only for the foreseeable future. A similar 10pm closure rule is in force in Scotland.
