Government minister chats ‘the future of defence’ with DCI at DPRTE

Defence Procurement Minister Jeremy Quin has spoken to DCI about plans for the UK to be a hotbed of innovation.

Following his lively keynote speech at the Defence, Procurement, Research, Technology and Exportability (DPRTE) conference 2022, the minister met with Adam Hughes and Scott Zonfrillo of Defence Contracts International (DCI).

The event, which took place on Thursday May 5th in Farnborough, saw Mr Quin highlight the vital role of the defence industry when it comes to delivering prosperity to the UK’s economy.

DPRTE – a hotbed for innovation

DPRTE, the UK’s leading defence procurement and supply chain event, saw organisations from around the UK come together to showcase their goods and services to all-important procurement officials from the defence industry.

Mr Quin said: “The defence sector is the jewel in the crown of our country’s economy – maintaining hundreds of thousands of jobs, developing rich skills bases and boosting our global influence.”

He also touched upon the delivery of £300 million in military aid to Ukraine, explaining: “delivery and maintenance of this equipment has been a huge logistical feat that wouldn’t be possible without an agile and resilient supply chain.”

The minister referenced DSIS (the Defence and Security Industrial Strategy) which was published back in 2021 and set out to attract the best suppliers into the defence supply chain.

One of the busiest years for DCI at DPRTE

Scott Zonfrillo, DCI Senior Business Development Manager, said: “DPRTE is a great opportunity for DCI to showcase the value they can add to businesses looking to win defence contracts – especially our innovative market intelligence, spend analysis data, and, of course, the assistance when it comes to engaging early.

“DPRTE is an excellent event for all involved and year-on-year we recognise the value in attending this event as it gives everyone the opportunity to network within the defence sector. Hearing Mr Quin discuss the investment pledged for defence certainly brings a sense of positivity and all of us at DCI are looking forward to DPRTE next year.”

Collaboration will better the defence sector

DCI is a BiP solutions brand with more than 38 years’ experience in public sector procurement.

It works to ensure buyers and suppliers within the defence sector are successfully partnered, with the right organisations winning the right contracts – to deliver the best deal for the buyer, the public purse, and, of course, the taxpayer.

A number of the Ministry of Defence’s main contracting partners gave presentations on the day including Airbus, Babcock International, and Thales.

While DPRTE exhibitors included Dell Technologies, Kongsberg, and Tetra Tech.

Simon Burges, CEO of BiP Solutions, added: “It’s particularly pleasing to hear MP Jeremy Quin’s comments regarding the prosperity that exists within defence. As a business, we’re witnessing significant investment into the sector and we’re incredibly proud to be able to play a part in facilitating such lucrative contracts from the perspective of both buyers and suppliers.”
